CITY OF NOVATO
Notice is hereby given that the Novato City Council will hold a public meeting on Tuesday, May 8, 2012, at 6:30 p.m. in the Novato City Hall, 901 Sherman Avenue, Novato, California, to consider the recommendation of the Novato Design Review Commission regarding a preferred sign package, gateway sign, and sign logo developed for the Downtown Novato Wayfinding Signage Program. The Downtown Novato Wayfinding Signage Program is intended to provide a plan and design for a uniform sign system to direct residents and visitors to Downtown Novato and its various amenities, such as public parking and the Civic Green.
The Environmental Coordinator has determined the Downtown Novato Wayfinding Signage Program is categorically exempt from the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) pursuant to CEQA Guidelines Section 15303, New Construction or Conversion of Small Structures, and Section 15304, Minor Alterations to Land. CEQA Guidelines Section 15303 exempts projects involving the location of new, small facilities or structures, such as placing signs within a developed downtown area. CEQA Guidelines Section 15304 exempts projects involving minor public or private alterations in the condition of land, such as minor trenching and backfilling to install new signs, which does not involve the removal of healthy, mature, and scenic trees. The Downtown Novato Wayfinding Signage Program meets the criteria to qualify for the categorical exemptions described above. Accordingly, the City of Novato intends to categorically exempt the Downtown Novato Wayfinding Signage Program from CEQA.
Comments received on or before the public meeting date will be considered by the City Council.
If anyone wishes to challenge this project in court, they may be limited to raising only those issues they or anyone else raised at the public meeting described in this notice or in written correspondence delivered to the Community Development Department at, or prior to, the public meeting.
