At the Novato City Council meeting of Tuesday, September 14, 2021, Councilmember Amy Peele announced her resignation from the City Council effective September 15, 2021. Councilmember Peele cited the demands of the position as impactful to her mental and physical health and after careful consideration in concert with her family, she decided to step down from the position.
“I leave this post proud that I have kept true to my original intentions: to work hard, learn what I could, to serve my community, to think globally while acting locally, and to do so with honesty and integrity,” said Councilmember Peele in a prepared statement that she read to the community during councilmember comments. Peele continued “The entire City Council, City Manager and staff have been nothing short of extraordinary – working hard and long hours to further the growth and stability of Novato.”
Peele was selected by the community as a councilmember in 2019 representing District 5, which includes Hamilton and parts of southern Novato, taking office at the December 10, 2019 council meeting for a five (5) year term. Options to address the newly created council vacancy will be presented to the City Council at their September 28, 2021 regular meeting.
“Councilmember Peele is a fervent community advocate and has a true servant’s heart. She will be truly missed on the City Council and by staff. Councilmember Peele worked incredibly hard for the community and brought forward important issues to the Council,” said Mayor Pat Eklund.
