At a Special Meeting on Tuesday, October 12, the Novato City Council unanimously voted to begin the process of appointing an interim City Councilmember to fill the current District 5 seat vacancy. The newly appointed Councilmember would serve until the November 8, 2022 Statewide General Election.
To be considered for the Novato City Council District 5 seat, those interested must:
- Submit a Letter of Interest and Resume to the Novato City Council at novatocouncil@novato.org by Thursday, October 21 at noon. Letters of interest should detail why you are interested in serving on the Novato City Council, and how your experience and qualifications would benefit the community;
- Live in Novato City Council District 5 which includes Hamilton and parts of southern Novato;
- Be 18 years or older; and
- Be a registered voter.
Council will conduct interviews of eligible applicants during their regular meeting on Tuesday, October 26 at 6pm. Interviews will be open to the public, and all application materials will be published with the City Council meeting agenda. Pursuant to Government Code Section 36512, the City Council must appoint an interim councilmember or call for a Special Election by November 14, 2021.
