At their regular meeting on Tuesday, January 24, the Novato City Council unanimously voted to begin the process of appointing a City Councilmember to fill the District 3 seat vacated by Eric Lucan, now serving as a Marin County Supervisor. The person appointed to fill the vacancy will hold office for the remainder of the term, which is set to expire in December 2024.

To be considered for the Novato City Council District 3 seat, those interested must:

  • Submit their application by Wednesday, February 8 at 5pm. Applications are available online at novato.org/elections or by contacting City Clerk Laura McDowall at lmcdowall@novato.org or 415.899.8986;
  • Be 18 years or older; and
  • Be a registered voter living within the boundaries of District 3 as they existed in 2019. A map of the 2019 District 3 boundaries can be found with the application materials or at novato.org/elections.

Council will conduct interviews of eligible applicants during their regular meeting of Tuesday, February 14. Interviews will be open to the public, and all application materials will be published with the City Council meeting agenda at least 72 hours in advance of the meeting at novato.org/agendas. Pursuant to Government Code Section 36512, the City Council must appoint a councilmember to the District 3 seat by March 3, 2023.
