You can now access available online records through our Novato Permit's record search portal. Available permit records after the year 2000 will be found through this portal.
To view records prior to the year 2000, please schedule an appoint for the self-service kiosk.
Self-service Kiosk
You can come into our administrative offices at 922 Machin Ave to research properties and see any current and previous permits on record. You will have access to permit records and plans dated prior to 2000, including digitized microfiche and scanned documents (photographs not permitted). Permit records after 2000 will be found through our new permitting software, MaintStar. Limited printing is available, subject to permission from architects, engineers, or designers of record, with a fee of $0.10 per page after the ninth page. Appointments are required to ensure we have the necessary staff available to assist you.
Permit Application Support
Do you need assistance with a permit application submittal? You can schedule an appointment where the permit staff will assist you in creating an account and completing an application in our Novato Permits portal. Our Novato Permits portal connects you to our new system, MaintStar, for applying for Building, Planning, or Public Work permits, scheduling inspections, filing code enforcement requests, and making secure online payments. Appointments are required to ensure we have the necessary staff available to assist you.

Staff is also available Monday to Thursday 9 am to 11 am on a first come first serve basis to assist with questions regarding Building, Planning, Public Works, code inquiries.
