Discover Careers in Law Enforcement

The Novato Police Youth Academy begins on Tuesday October 14, 2025, at 5:30 pm at the Novato Police Department and continue the Second Tuesday of every month through May 2026.

The Novato Police Youth Academy is an engaging way for teenagers, ages 14-20 years of age, to explore the field of law enforcement. The program offers training on topics related to 911 Dispatch, Crime Scene Investigation, Police Canines, Crisis Negotiators, SWAT Team, Detectives, Police Vehicles (Armored Rescue Van, Patrol cars, Motorcycles) & Equipment (Drone & Robot). Facilitated by department staff, the program promotes personal growth through good citizenship and community service.

Youth Academy explorers participate in field trips and community outreach events. Qualified youth can ride-along with on-duty officers or shadow a 911 dispatcher.  The Novato Police Department has a long tradition of youth program participants who have gained part-time (as an NPD Cadet) and full-time law enforcement employment as police officers and dispatchers.
