NO.  The Novato Police Department does not have the authority to enforce any federal laws, including immigration laws. Novato Police Officers only conduct criminal investigations regarding state law and/or local ordinances.

NO.  The Novato Police Department does not ask for immigration status, as it has no relevance to any crimes we investigate.  Additionally, state law (SB 54: The California Values Act) prohibits us from doing so. 

NO. The Novato Police Department does not have the authority to enforce immigration laws, therefore we do not participate in sweeps.

YES. Immigration Officers have full enforcement authority anywhere in the United States, including in the city of Novato. 

YES.  For officer safety purposes, Immigration Officers should, and most often will, notify the Novato Police Department if they will be in town conducting surveillance or taking enforcement action. However, this is not required and does not always happen.
