Project Overview
2026 Annual Pavement Rehabilitation Project (CIP #26-001)
Description
As part of the City’s ongoing commitment to maintaining high-quality infrastructure, the 2026 Annual Pavement Rehabilitation Project will focus on the Redwood Boulevard corridor. This project was prioritized based on the City’s Pavement Management Program (PMP), which uses the Pavement Condition Index (PCI) and traffic volume to determine where maintenance dollars are most effectively spent.
The rehabilitation will utilize a tiered approach to extend the life of the roadway:
- Crack & Mastic Sealing: Specialized flexible sealants will be used to fill deep cracks, preventing water from reaching the road base.
- Slurry Seal: A protective surface coating will be applied to the majority of the corridor to restore friction and prevent oxidation.
- Localized Reconstruction: Limited "mill and fill" (grinding and paving) will occur in specific areas where the underlying pavement has failed.
A highlight of this year’s project is the installation of a Class IV Bikeway along nearly the entire length of the project limits. Unlike standard bike lanes, a Class IV facility uses a physical vertical element (such as bollards, curbing, or planters) to separate cyclists from vehicular traffic, significantly improving safety and comfort for all road users.
