Hamilton Amphitheater Park Playground Improvements Project (CIP No. 26-004)

Description

Hamilton Amphitheater Park is a neighborhood park and valued community gathering space that provides opportunities for outdoor recreation, neighborhood events, and community performances. The park serves residents and visitors with open green space, walking paths, seating areas, and the existing historic amphitheater, making it an important destination for recreation and community activities.

The Hamilton Amphitheater Park Improvement Project #26-004 was identified as a priority to enhance the park's functionality, accessibility, and overall visitor experience. The playground currently uses sand as fall protection which does not meet California Business Code requirements 2022 CBC 11B-1008.2.6 or ADA requirements. Continued efforts to maximize inclusion should be incorporated into design of structure and surfacing as requested by the community.

Benefit

This project will provide more opportunities for Novato residents to actively participate and play at Hamilton Amphitheater Park through upgraded playground amenities and enhanced accessibility.

The proposed scope of work of this project includes:

• Removal of existing sand, leveling playground area with aggregate base material and replacing with pour-in-place (PIP) surfacing.
• Removal, disposal, and replacement of existing play structures.
• Installation of edge curb (near tree), gazebo refurbishing.
• New ADA compliant facilities to be installed are new vehicular concrete in parking area, repaving of the adjacent driveway, improving the accessible path of travel from the parking lot to the playground.
• Replacement of existing water fountains with new sensor operated accessible drinking fountains and bottle fillers.
• Restroom remodel.

Schedule

Construction to begin in the second half of September 2026, with tentative completion scheduled for the end of October 2026.

Cost

$700,000 Total Project Budget. Costs are based on the design and development fees, new play structures and water fountains purchase cost, engineering estimate for the construction and construction management. Funding sources: Parks Measure A Fund, Long Term Maintenance and Recreation Development Impact Fees.
